Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Steak Salad Recipe

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 2  Northern Fisheries branded Ahi tuna steaks (about 6-8 ounces each)
  • 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons white sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • Mixed salad greens (lettuce, spinach, arugula, etc.)
  • 1 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/4 cup edamame beans (cooked and shelled)
  • 1 green onion, thinly sliced
  • Fresh cilantro and sesame seeds for garnish
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs, sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives

Instructions:

Please note all seafood should be cooked to a minimal internal temperature of 145°F

  1. In a shallow dish, combine the black and white sesame seeds. Press the tuna steaks into the seeds on all sides to coat them evenly.

  2. Heat a drizzle of sesame oil in a non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot, add the tuna steaks and sear them for about 1 to 2 minutes per side, depending on your desired level of doneness (for medium-rare, aim for 1 minute per side). Be careful not to overcook the tuna as it can become tough.

  3. Remove the tuna steaks from the pan and let them rest for a minute before slicing. Cut the tuna into thin slices and set aside.

  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil to make the dressing.

  5. In a large salad bowl, combine the mixed greens, cucumber, carrot, avocado, edamame beans, sliced hard-boiled eggs, cherry tomatoes, and sliced black olives.

  6. Drizzle the dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat the ingredients evenly.

  7. Arrange the sesame crusted Ahi tuna slices on top of the salad.

  8. Garnish the salad with sliced green onions, fresh cilantro, and an extra sprinkle of sesame seeds.
